Ingredients
- Flour 350g
- Sugar 20g
- Salt 1g
- Cold butter 200g
- Egg 1
- Cold water 2 tablespoons
Method
- Sift the flour
- Cut the butter in small cubes
- Add the sugar, salt, egg and cold butter and combine
- If it is needed add the cold water to it
- Once everything is combined, cover with cling film and let it rest in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Note: Don’t work the dough too much by hand in order not to heat up the ingredients.
You can let the dough rest for over night too.
If you want to use the crust for savory pies, you can add less sugar and more salt to it.
Fun facts: The Ancient Egyptians were the first to invent a dish close to what we know as a pie today. They had a honey filling covered in a crusty cake made from oats, wheat, rye or barley.
