Ingredients
- Beer batter 200mL
- Ground cinnamon 4g
- Apples 500g
- Lemon juice 20mL
- Sugar 40g
- Oil 150mL
Method
- Prepare the beer batter
- Mix the cinnamon with the sugar
- Wash, peel and core the apples, the cut them into 5mm thick slices. Marinate it with the juice of the lemon.
- Heat up the oil
- Drain the lemon juice from the apples and draw through the beer batter.
- Place the apples into the hot oil and fry them until golden brown.
- Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on paper towel
- Draw the fritters through the sugar and cinnamon mixture while they are still hot.
Note: The lemon juice will prevent the apples from oxidizing. If you don’t like the slightly sour note that the lemon juice will give the apples, you can just simply place the apple slices into the batter.
Fun facts: The apple fritters also known as “Apfelküchle” is said to be a German pastry, popular in Baden-Württemberg, a federal state in South-Germany however its origins are not clear. In reality, Romans ate fritters, and the apple iterations date at least as far back as medieval England.
